The Carson’s Department Store in the Five Points Mall in Marion will close in the next few weeks, leaving employees out of work.
Bon-Ton Stores, Incorporated announced Wednesday afternoon that the Marion Carson’s Store would close along with four other stores in Indiana. In all, 42 stores operated by Bon-Ton under the names of Carson’s, Elder-Beerman and others will close as part of a corporate downsizing program.
Officials say the stores will begin liquidation sales immediately and will close in 10 to 12 weeks. Affected employees will be given the chance to interview for jobs at other Bon-Ton stores.
The Carson’s store in Marion has been at the Five Points Mall under various names since the late 1970’s.
