The Grant County Council last night voted against filling vacancies for three deputies in the Sheriff’s Department as the council continues to battle a money shortage.
Sheriff Reggie Nevels asked for permission to fill the vacancies, as well as a vacant dispatcher’s position. The Council did approve replacing the dispatcher’s job, but not the deputies.
Council President Jim McWhirt told the “Chronicle-Tribune,” that because of the budget woes the county will not be able to provide the protection from the Sheriff’s Department that is has in the past.
