Council Approves Sheriff’s Position After Money Found

The Grant County Council last night approved filling a position in the Grant County Sheriff’s Department after state money was found to help pay for the position.

The Council okayed the hiring of a supervisor for the County Jail’s inmate work crew after Sheriff Reggie Nevels found most of the money to fund the position with state grant money.  He came up with the rest of the position’s needed money from other sources.

Sheriff Nevels says the work crew does jobs for several local organizations that rely on such help and funding the supervisor’s position was vital to the county.

But the “Chronicle-Tribune” reports the Sheriff’s Department still has two other deputy positions that remain unfilled due to a lack of funding.
