The 2019 City Election in Marion is still 10 months away, but a current City Council member plans to announce his candidacy for the Mayor’s office tonight.

Republican Steve Henderson will hold a rally tonight 6 at at McCarthy Hall at St. Paul’s Catholic Church to announce his plans to run for Mayor.  Henderson has been a member of the City Council for three years and he’s currently the chairman of the Council’s Compliance Committee and is the council’s representative to both the city Board of Works and the Redevelopment Commission.

Henderson says by announcing early, he hopes he can get a jump start on the competition…

Henderson says he plans to focus on the city’s finances during the campaign.

Current Mayor Jess Alumbaugh…a Democrat…has already indicated he’ll seek a second term in office.  Several other persons are rumored to be interested in seeking the mayor’s office, but have not yet made it official.
