The Cardinal Greenway is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and it’s also celebrating being named to the National Rail-To-Trail Hall of Fame.
The Cardinal Greenway stretches nearly 62 miles from Marion through Muncie and on to Richmond, and is the longest such trail in Indiana. It was one of five nominees this year for the national Rail-to-Trail Hall of Fame and it secured more than 50 percent of the vote to become the Rail-to-Trail Conservancy’s 32nd inductee into the Hall of Fame.
The Rail-To-Trail Conservancy is a nonprofit organization working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors.
