Charges filed against 25-year-old who shot Marion girl in the knee

A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection to a seven-year-old girl being shot in the knee while inside her home, according to Marion Police Department Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey.

Tony Cotton was charged with attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a firearm, and battery committed with a deadly weapon.

MPD originally arrested Cotton on Oct. 20 for possession of marijuana. Cotton was unable to bond out of jail which gave police time to continue building evidence with the investigation.

Cotton’s bond is set at $300,000.00

On Oct. 19 at approximately 6:10 pm, Marion Police responded to the 1000 Block of West 17th Street for shots fired into a home.
