U.S. government detained record 69,550 migrant children this year

The U.S. government detained a record 69,550 migrant children in 2019; a 42% increase from 2018. The United Nations says that the U.S. has detained more kids away from their parents than any other country in the world.

After public outcry, the current administration ended its zero-tolerance policy that separated children from their families at the border.

However, little was done to help migrant children experiencing the trauma of separation.
