One deputy was injured after a standoff with a man who refused to leave a residence.
Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 2801 S Stone Rd, lot 151 in regards to Joshua Boothby, 42, refusing to leave, threatening the people there with a knife and stating that he was going to bleed on the bed, according to the department’s hot sheet.
On the scene, Deputy JWard witnessed Boothby go into the residence possibly with the knife.
Boothby ended up locking the doors to the home, barricading himself inside and not acknowledging that the deputies were there, the hot sheet read.
He was located in the bathroom and kicked the door back shut when deputies attempted to enter. Entry was made into the bathroom and deputies found Boothby did have the knife and he was assisted to the hallway away from the knife.
Marion General Hospital was called to check on Boothby due to his state of intoxication, however, he refused treatment. He continued to physically fight the deputies and locked his body up attempting to get him into the car to transport to jail.
In the process of fighting with deputies while getting in the patrol car, Sgt. Troyer was injured. He was eventually placed in a caged car and transported to MGH to be treated and then taken to the Grant County Jail.
According to Capt. Ed Beaty of the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Troyer suffered a sore and swollen knee and is set to undergo a medical exam.
Boothby now facing charges of Resisting Law Enforcement, Battery resulting in bodily injury to public safety official while engaged in official duties, Disorderly Conduct and Intimidation.
