Yesterday afternoon a man was shot and killed after he allegedly entered a home that wasn’t his.
At around 1 p.m. the Grant County Sheriff’s Department dispatch center received a call from a subject stating he had killed an intruder at the residence of 6111 S. 500 East, according to Capt. Ed Beaty.
Upon officers’ arrival, two subjects were located outside the residence and taken into protective custody.
Officers then entered the residence and secured it.
Inside, officers discovered a white male lying on the floor near the backdoor of the residence suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head and torso.
According to Grant County Coroner Stephen Dorsey, 33-year-old Steven Nickell was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two subjects taken into protective custody were transported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department to be interviewed and search warrants were obtained for the residence to continue the investigation.
