A man was arrested after firing a gun on I-69 in a road rage incident

Grant County An alleged road rage incident led to the arrest of an Indianapolis man and the recovery of a stolen handgun at approximately 7:35 a.m. Monday.

According to a press release, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department responded to I-69 on a report of a person having fired a gun. The preliminary investigation indicated that a  man was driving a semi-tractor, pulling a trailer, southbound on I-69 near mile marker 266. The semi-tractor was allegedly cut off by a 2007 Ford Mustang driven 53-year-old by Jerry Steele of Indianapolis. the semi driver purportedly honked at the Mustang, when Steele allegedly put a handgun out of his window and fired a shot into the air.

The Mustang was located and stopped near the mile marker 251  in Delaware County. During the course of the investigation, officers said they found a nine millimeter Ruger handgun in Steele’s vehicle, which had been reported as stolen from Marion County.

Records indicate Steele was released from the Grant County Jail after posting bond. He faces preliminary charges for possession of stolen property and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
