The State of Indiana’s moratorium on foreclosures, evictions and service disconnects will be ending on Aug. 14.
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) those at risk of facing foreclosures, evictions or service disconnects should reach out to their respective landlord, lender or service provider to explore options.
If you still need assistance, IHCDA states that there are groups and agencies that can help. Mortgage payment assistance is available for Hoosier homeowners through Indiana’s Hardest Hit Fund. Additional resources may be available through churches and not-for-profit organizations. Assistance is also available to help pay utilities and medical bills. You are encouraged to call 2-1-1 to find all the available resources.
IHCDA is also encouraging those who can’t pay for their utilities at this time to see if they are eligible for the state’s Energy Assistance Program (EAP). Energy assistance is a one-time benefit that can assist you with the cost of home energy and can help if you are about to get disconnected. Remember that even if disconnection is suspended, your bills will continue to accrue.
You should also check with your township trustee to see if they offer utility assistance.
