BREAKING: SUV vs motorcycle accident claims the life of a Marion man

An accident involving an SUV and a motorcycle yesterday afternoon has claimed the life of a Marion man.

According to a press release from Marion Police Department Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey, the accident occurred at approximately 1:35 p.m. near the 2300 block of South Western Avenue.

The press release states that 72-year-old Jayce A. Lewis, of Noblesville, was traveling southbound on Western Avenue when she tried to turn into the entrance to Culver’s restaurant. Lewis reported that as she turned in to the restaurant, she struck something, which she later realized was a motorcycle. Lewis reported that she never saw the motorcycle before she turned and struck it.

Dorsey said that the motorcyclist, identified as 68-year-old Daniel E. Clanin, was traveling northbound on Western Avenue and had the right of way before he was struck.

Clanin was taken to Marion General Hospital where he died due to the injuries he sustained, according to Dorsey.

According to the press release, alcohol was not suspected in the crash.
