A UPS driver has died after a Grant County crash yesterday.
According to Grant County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Ed Beaty, officers were dispatched to the area of County Road 975 West and County Road 400 South at approximately 5:41 p.m. yesterday for reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Investigations indicate that the UPS driver, whose identity is currently being withheld, was headed south on County Road 975 West, approaching County Road 400 South. According to Beaty, for reasons unknown, the UPS delivery truck failed to yield, striking a westbound box truck on its passenger side.
Beaty said both vehicles left the roadway south, ending up in a soybean field. The box truck came to a stop on its side. The UPS driver was ejected from their vehicle.
When officers arrived, both the UPS driver and the passenger of the box truck, who is identified as 18-year-old Wilmer Corrales, of Kokomo, were transported to the hospital. At that time, the UPS driver was pronounced dead. Corrales was later flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment, according to Beaty. He has since been released.
The driver of the box truck, Daniel Meza, 47, of Kokomo, refused medical treatment.
Investigations of this incident remain ongoing.
