Camp Atterbury will take in Afghan refugees

The people coming from Afghanistan to Indiana will be vetted before they are allowed into the United States. Brig. Gen. Dale Lyles, adjutant general of the Indiana National Guard, said in a briefing Wednesday that the FBI and Homeland Security would be involved in that process. Camp Atterbury, located near Edinburgh, is preparing for 5,000 people to arrive in as early as a week. The goal is to eventually have them absorbed into America, with Atterbury as their first temporary stopping point. The evacuees are expected to be at the camp, which is located near Edinburgh, for a matter of weeks. Lyles said the evacuees will be tested for COVID.
