Consumer Product Safety Commission issues recall on portable propane heaters

If you recently bought a Bauer Forced Air Propane portable heater, you’ll want to take caution.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the product, which was sold nationwide at Harbor Freight in late 2020 and early 2021, can potentially leak propane, posing a fire hazard. Officials say propane leaks can happen when the fitting at the back of the heater fails to be sufficiently tight.

The CPSC notes that about 19,000 units sold between  November 2020 until March 5, 2021, could be affected by this problem. Harbor Freight officials are working to contact all known purchasers directly with updated instructions for use and detailed instructions on how to inspect and tighten the fittings on the heaters if necessary, using the wrench supplied with the product.

The CPSC is encouraging consumers to use the “soapy water leak test” to determine if their unit could be part of the recall. Instructions on how to perform this test can be found on their website.
