Grant County K9 officer stabbed during armed robbery investigation

A recent armed robbery has led to a K9 with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD) being injured.

According to a press release from Gas City Police Department Asst. Chief Heath Emmons, officers responded to the McClure Gas Station at 229 W. Main St., at around 3 a.m. yesterday for reports of an armed robbery.

Emmons said after gathering information on the suspect, multiple agencies began searching the area. The suspect, later identified as Nicholas A. Haneline, was located and taken into custody. But according to Emmons, prior to Haneline being taken in, GCSD K9, Kiro, was stabbed in the chest area and had to be taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.

Officials stated Kiro is expected to make a full recovery.

As for Haneline, he’s been charged with intimidation, armed robbery, resisting law enforcement and battery on a police officer.

According to its website, Haneline is currently being held in the Grant County Jail on a $60,005 bond.
