11 year-old boy shot in Marion on Monday

Police are investigating a shooting that injured an 11-year-old boy.

According to Marion Police Department Chief Angela Haley, on Monday, Nov. 22, around 6:45 a.m., an 11-year-old male victim was dropped off at his residence in the 3200 block of S. Harvey Street after having spent the weekend at his grandmother’s residence.  The boy went through the garage to get inside the home.

Haley said that the boy’s mother’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Joshua Kinder, believed the boy was an intruder trying to get inside.  Police reports state Kinder shot the boy when the boy got in the residence.  The injury is believed to be non-life-threatening.

After identifying the boy, his mother took him to Marion Health.  The victim was then transferred to Riley Children’s hospital for additional treatment. While his condition is unknown, officials believe his injuries are non-life-threatening.
