Weekend storms hit Indiana and neighboring state

Severe storms rushed through the state last night and early into this morning. Portions of Indiana saw wind gusts up to and above 60 miles an hour, says WISH-TV meteorologist Marcus Bailey on Twitter. Despite this, the National Weather Service says Indiana managed to avoid the worst parts of the storm. Meanwhile, Kentucky was ripped apart by tornadoes, causing Governor Andy Beshear to declare an emergency. In a video posted Saturday morning, Beshear says over fifty people died in Friday night’s storm. As a result, Indiana is lending aid to Kentucky. Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith says Indiana Task Force 1 is heading to Mayfield, Kentucky to be part of search and rescue efforts. Approximately 45 personnel have been sent out as of Saturday.
