U.S. Supreme Court declines case from a man convicted in Huntington County

The U.S. Supreme Court will not hear the case of a man convicted of child molestation in Indiana. On Monday, the justices announced they have declined to review the case of Eric Benson Skeens. In 2009, a Huntington County jury convicted Skeens on five counts of child molestation. According to court documents, Skeens performed sex acts on a girl as young as 7 years old. In 2009, Skeens was sentenced to 90 years in prison. Initially, Skeens asked the U.S. Supreme Court to reduce that sentence, citing ineffective assistance of counsel. The Indiana Court of Appeals also rejected a similar request from Skeens in November 2020.
