State lawmakers consider bill on comments during school board meetings

A new bill in the Indiana Statehouse deals with issue surrounding public comments at school board meetings. House Bill 1130 passed in the Indiana House, 92 to 1. The bill is authored by State Representative Tim O’Brien of Evansville. The bill would require school boards across the state to allow time for public comments from people who are actually present at meetings. The bill gives boards the option to set a comment time limit of three minutes or more. It also allows boards to remove disruptive people in a “reasonable” manner. The bill heads to the Senate for consideration.
