Test results for third to eighth-grade students passing both the math and English portion of Indiana’s ISTEP+ show achievement gaps for students of color. The percentage of Asian students passing both English and math is near 70-percent, compared to 58-percent for white students, 38-percent for Hispanic students and just 25-percent for black students. The achievement gap also exists for children from economically disadvantage backgrounds.
The Indiana Youth Institute is hosting a special training event to help close the achievement gap. The event is from 11 to 1 on February 13th at the New Life Church on East Vaile Avenue in Kokomo.
