The Marion City Council wants contractors to know the city building code, and they’re proposing an ordinance to test them on it.
The City Council’s Code Enforcement Committee plans to take a proposed ordinance to the full council to create a test that all contractors will have to pass before they can conduct business in Marion. The test will be over the city’s building code.
The “Chronicle-Tribune” reports the test is due to some people posing as contractors who don’t know the code and do work on buildings that doesn’t meet city standards. The proposed test, they feel, would weed out those contractors.
The proposed ordinance will be presented to the full City Council later this month.
