Catholic bishop to douse town in holy water to curb murders

Things have gotten a bit rough in Buenaventura, Colombia, with 51 murders taking place in just the last five months.

Perhaps feeling the population has become possessed, a Catholic bishop has hatched up a plan to combat crime.

According to RCN-Radio, Monsignor Rubén Darío Jaramillo Montoya will take to the skies in a plane next month, dumping holy water over the city in an effort “to see if so many bad things end and the devil comes out of here”.

Bishop Jaramillo is now working with the mayor’s office and the national Navy to time the exorcism to Fiesta de San Buenaventura, the celebration of the city’s patron saint on July 13 and 14.
