MPD: 18-year-old shot over weekend, alleged suspect in custody

Marion Police responded to a fatal shooting over the weekend that left an 18-year-old dead. A suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting.

Friday night at around 10:24 p.m. MPD officers responded to the 300 block of W. 30th St. for a report of shots fired and one person injured.

According to Capt. Stephen Dorsey, officers arrived on the scene, and located victim Enrique Alcorta, 18, lying in the parking lot.

Alcorta had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest area. Officers immediately began resuscitation efforts on Alcorta until Marion General Hospital ambulance personnel arrived. Upon the medic’s arrival, Alcorta was transported to the hospital with lifesaving efforts in progress.

Due to the injuries Alcorta sustained he was pronounced dead at 11:13 p.m. by MGH medical personnel. An autopsy is pending scheduling at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne, according to a press release.

MPD charged Jomar Xavier Worthy, 35, for the shooting of Alcorta. Worthy was identified as a person of interest early in the police investigation.

Worthy provided detectives with information concerning the shooting, at which time he was arrested. Worthy is being held on the preliminary charge of Murder – No Bond. Worthy was transported to the Grant Co. Jail without incident.
