Marion teen admits he shot himself, after claiming someone else shot him

A shooting investigation into a 16-year-old Marion resident shot in his garage has come to a close, after the injured person confessed to accidentally shooting himself.

The male admitted to Marion Police Department officers that it was an accident while cleaning his rifle.

It was originally reported that on Oct. 3 at about 4 p.m. a teenager was shot in his left leg while inside his garage in the 400 block of S. Park Ave.

The teen falsely reported that a male of stocky build and wearing a black hoodie walked into his garage and shot him below the knee.

The teen said the suspect then fled east down an alleyway.

The injury is non-life threatening.
